Legal Department

         The Village of Spring Valley’s Legal Department is staffed with a Village Attorney and three Assistant Attorneys who are the legal advisors to the Mayor, the Village Board of Trustees, Department Heads, the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Planning Board.

         As Village Attorneys for the Village of Spring Valley some of our duties include, but are not limited to:

· Advising the Village Board on the drafting and amending of local laws, which include planning, zoning, and environmental issues; 

· Counseling and representing the Village on any legal matters that may arise;

· Supervising pending litigations;

· Offering legal opinions regarding explanation of Village Codes and assisting in the developing of ordinances and resolutions; and

· Reviewing contracts and agreements.

         Village Attorneys cannot advise members of the public or Village staff concerning their private legal matters or any legal issue that does not pertain to Village official matters.
