The Finkelstein Memorial Library, on South Madison Avenue was built in 1940 at a cost of $25,000 and a gift to the community of Mrs. Sarah Finkelstein and her four sons, Abe, Jack, Charles and Robert. It was given in the memory of the late Joseph N. Finkelstein, who was actively engaged in all charitable functions and took an active part in the life of the community. His philanthropies were many and he never failed to contribute to any worthy cause. He made large contributions to charitable institutions, not only locally but throughout the country. His son Robert was the President of the board for many years until his recent death. Robert was dedicated to carrying out his fathers wishes of giving the finest library services to the citizens of Spring Valley.
